Hands provides a low cost neutering services for cats living on the streets of Fethiye and surrounding areas

The young cat you see below in the pictures, was found in distress, she was giving birth but her kitten was stuck. We arranged for Miaf vet picked her up and after rushing her to their clinic they helped her to deliver 5 kittens. The mother was undernourished, anemic and very frightened. She would have died along with her kittens had she not been rescued.

We have a friend of Hands who has volunteered to take care of the family until they are old enough to be adopted. THIS COSTS MONEY.

Hands has covered the much reduced cost charged by Miaf Vetinary Surgery and will pay 1,000tl per cat to have them neuetered when they are old enough.

HANDS NEEDS YOUR HELP. IF ALL OUR FRIENDS AND OVER 4,000 MEMBERS PAID JUST £1 (59tl) WE COULD EASILY COVER THE COSTS AND HELP MANY OTHER STREET CATS TO LIVE A BETTER LIFE. PLEASE DONATE A LITTLE TO US TODAY

Our aim is to help neuter street and garden cats using low cost Vetinary services funded with Members donations. |

By reducing the population of street cats we give females the chance to enjoy their lives without constantly being pregnant and for males to stop fighting other male cats, many of which get seriously injured.

Why we Neuter Street Cats

Female cats living outside can have two litters per year and up to 4 kittens each litter. Many of the kittens die because their mother cannot feed herself and make enough milk to feed her babies. The kittens that survive go on to have kittens of their own, some being pregnant in their 5th month of life. In one year three females cats of the same lineage ( Grandma, Mother and Daughter) can each have kittens. This results is 24 kittens born in 12 months. Without our help, the streets of Fethiye would be overrun with cats.

Many locals feed outside cats without any help with the costs. Some are feeding 20 or more cats every day. These volunteers cannot afford to also pay standard vet fees to have the cats neutered, which is where we are able to help. We can also provide cages to catch the cats if required.

It is important to note that we do not neuter to kill off the cat population, we neuter because we want these cats to have a better life. Constantly having kittens means they live a miserable life, always anxious and hungry.

Don’t worry though, there are still male and female cats that elude capture and continue to increase the population. That is why we are constantly raising funds for our neutering programme.

To request to neuter a cat, please go to our Neutering Service Page for instructions.
